Title: Efi for a 5.7 Hemi
Post by: billsdart on February 12, 2012, 09:03:33 PM
I am building a 1972 dodge dart with a pro charged 5.7 hemi. I know fast has a crate motor transplant kit for the hemi but what other options do I have for running fuel injection for a street strip engine.
Thanks Bill

Bill, a lot of the Stockers, like Barton and others have very good success with the AEM on those engines.  You dont want one that you cant fully manipultate, so becareful what you buy.  I knoe Fast XFI and Bs3 are ok as well

MegaSquirt 3 is another option. DIYAutotune has a pretty comprehensive kit now days. At least on S/SS guy running it.

If you don't have anything yet i would buy a complete used engine and trans complete with a factory computer and wire harnes...... add the procharger and tune the factory computer.

At Cleveland Pick-A-Part, each motor and transmission are inspected and run tested before we back them with our exclusive 6-month warranty!

Before we start each engine, we remove all the spark plugs and hand turn the engine over to make sure no oil has passed the rings.

We do a compression test to make sure the piston rings, exhaust valves, intake valves, and head gaskets are properly sealed.

We do a vacuum test to make sure there are no burned or sticking exhaust and intake valves, collapsed lifters, or vacuum leaks.

We do an oil pressure test at cold start up and warm operating temperatures to ensure proper rod bearing clearance and that there are no restrictions in the oiling system.

We do a CO test to make sure there are no cracks in the engine block and cylinder heads, and that there are no exhaust gases present in the cooling system.

We inspect the automatic transmission by draining and inspecting the transmission fluid. We then remove the filter and check for any debris or foreign material. We then refill the transmission with new fluid. If any problems are found, the transmission will be torn down for inspection and repaired as necessary.

Compression was a TIGHT 225 over 220

1-225 2-220 3-220 4-225 5-225 6-220 7-220 8-225

Oil pressure was 65 pounds cold and 55 pounds warm

Vacuum was a SOLID 19"

I already have the motor and no pcm. I just don't like the thought of e-mail tunes through the predator.

Can you tune like a Cobb system for Subaru's, or do you have to buy the cmr for the predator?

If you have never done it before or scared to do a stand alone.  go with a mail order down loadable tune.  other wise go with ms2 or ms3.  im going with ms2 and the msd box for ignition control.  several ss racers are running with megasquirt and loving it.  avoid aem like the plague.  ive seen nothing but issues and complaints over on theturboforums.  perhaps they have fixed it since hen but i dont know.
