383 Inch G3
« on: May 22, 2017, 07:49:03 AM »
Well I thought I'd brush aside the tumble weeds in this area of the forum, break out the Paddles and yell clear.

I'm building a 383ci 5.7 based HEMI 3.957 bore 3.9 stroke, Plan on going with 03-08 5.7 heads want to keep it somewhat simple,  looking about 500hp motor, with carb....No EFI on this truck, next project will go EFI.
It's going in a 75 D100 step side(was a D-code 440 truck) Dana rear with 4.10's , might pull the rear and go 8/34, but either way it will have 4 speed behind it. manual steering and brake truck, so vacuum is not an issue.
Truck weighs 3600 with the 440 A833 OD. the new box is 18 spline all alum case.
Truck will see 50/50 track street use.
I'll have some Questions later , have to get back to work and make the money to build this thing.

has any tried putting 1.625 exhaust valves in the 03-08  Heads? I've seen conversations about 1.60s
I have a set of Manley 11670-8 here I was thinking of user them instead of buying a smaller set of 1.57's or 1.60s

The od of the valve seat will determine if it can be used. The od of the seat should be larger than the valve.  Also if it will physically fit next to your intake valve.

I think I'm going to stick to the 1.57's and use the 1.625s for the next build.

Change in plans going to put a stockish 5.7 out of an 04 Durango, and just work on the chassis for now.
